Capture House
For this project we designed a “Capture House”. This is an environmental home modification designed to catch burglars by luring them into a home that has been rigged with camera equipment, staged for occupancy, and populated with their ideal items to steal.
The first stage of development was to base our home design off a plan taken from the Midtown community. We used the programs Rhino, for scaling, Revit, for modeling, generating final project sheets, and renderings..
How well do you feel the project was structured and how well did you pace yourself?
I felt the project was well structured with the different revit vidoes, but it was a lot to take on at once. It become long and tedious work, but I feel that is how it might have to be when beginning to learn a program. You need to know the basics before you have the skills to help you work creatively on your own., I spent a week on vacation during the timeline of the project, while working a job, and taking the wood shop one class that is around 21-24 hours a week. Due to these other commitments my pace in this project wasn't done in a very intelligent way and was pressed for time.
Do you feel comfortable using the software in an internship environment?
Yes I would feel comfortable using this software in an internship position, I think I have a good base knowledge of the tools and the continued learning could be exploring the software on my own.
Acknowledging that this course doesn’t teach you how to assemble a building (BCS or BCSIA will do that) how do you feel moving into that coursework?
I feel it could be interesting or very boring, but I have the base knowledge of how structure works so I think I will understand it, it's just a matter of if i will like it.
Did you utilize any skills from the previous residential design studio? If so, which?
I would say I thought about zoning and placing furniture with the goal of flow and movement in mind which are both skills we learned in our residential studios.
Do you feel comfortable putting together a design proposal in Revit now?
Yes I think I could, but I would need to do more research probably on just seeing how far revit can be pushed to see the potential.
Can you make your own custom view templates for your own purposes now?
Yes, I love this aspect of the program!
