Assignment 1: Capture an Event

For the first assignment in this class we were tasked to preform a simple action and then capture the event by taking multiple pictures of the action as it progresses. For my action I decided just to preform the motion of running then jumping and using one foot to push off the wall. A very average display of what I'd like to call "parkour."

To start this project I ventured down to the basketball court in my apartment complex and was pleasantly surprised by the back concrete wall. The aesthetic of the grime and worn down quality of the concrete is actually visually appealing. I thought the stark wall would contrast nicely to the dynamic running/jumping sequence.

When taking the photos into Photoshop, I first separated all the singular images from their backgrounds and started the overlay process. From there I experimented with the opacity and blur tools. I wanted the image to celebrate and capture the swift movement that was occurring in the photo. After research and experimentation of the blur tools I decided I wanted to specifically use the motion blur tool. I decided on this tool in particular because you can set the angle at which you want the image to blur. The effect did not turn out as dramatic as I would've liked.

As far as the layout of the images I wanted to leave a 1/4 of the image blank, I wanted the viewer to image what would come next after landing the jump. I also experimented with the color balance tools. I tinted the color on the magenta scale to give it a cool complexion.

All in all I thought the final image I created turned out quite well. It's always fun finding tools in Photoshop that can help create visual effects like the motion blur tool.
